KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7, (KUNA): Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah reiterated, on Thursday, Kuwait’s stance rejecting the violation of the sanctity of Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Tehran and its diplomatic missions in Mashhad.

This remark was made by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled during a meeting with the visiting Iranian First Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi. The Kuwaiti Minister expressed his condemnation to these attacks that are considered a “clear violation” of Vienna’s 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations and its 1963 Convention on Consular Relations. Recalling Kuwaiti Ambassador from Iran comes in line with Kuwait’s supporting position to Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled shouldered Iran the responsibility to ease tension and avoid any escalations. He also stressed the importance for Iran to fully protect diplomatic missions and its staff, in accordance to international laws that guarantees the sovereignty of nations without any external interference to their internal affairs. The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarrallah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ali Suleiman Al-Saeed and other senior officials.

Meanwhile, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) and Kuwait parliament speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim affirmed AIPU’s support to Saudi Arabia in the face of its current challenges. Al-Ghanim made this remark to the press, on Thursday, after meeting up with Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby. “As an Arab parliament, we confirm our support to Saudi Arabia, one of the AIPU members, against any violations that have been done to it, most recently the attacks on its embassy and its diplomatic missions in Iran,” Al-Ghanim said.

On his meeting with Al-Araby, Al-Ghanim described it as “constructive” and had many “eye-to-eye” views on several regional challenges and developments, especially regarding the Palestine file. He stressed that there is an existing cooperation among AIPU, Arab Parliament and Arab League in order to “unify stances” and “face trials.” AIPU is currently working on regaining Egypt’s membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which mainly depends on the results of Geneva’s recent meeting and House of Representatives’ election on Jan 10.

Once Egypt gets its membership back, then it will be able to resume its important role in Arab parliaments. The next IPU meeting will be in Zambia which will discuss many serious global challenges, hence, Arab parliaments should exert many efforts to come together in the event, Al-Ghanim pointed out.
